Our Origin
THA UKE, a physiotherapist is working under Ministry of Health for seven years since 1987 to 1994 at Pakokku Hospital and Falam Specialist Hospital. After he got marriage with two kids he quit his job to work at aboard to earn more mo From 1996 to 1998, he works as a physiotherapist at ‘Spastic Children Association’ of Penang, Malaysia and ‘St. Luke Hospital for the Elderly’, Singapore for total three years at aboard. During his stay at Penang, Malaysia in 1996 he met Pastor Bang, founder of “Eden Handicap Service Centre”, who introduce disability ministry and encourage him to do the same thing at Myanmar.
During that period there was no service provision center for children with physical and intellectual disabilities in the whole country except on ‘School for Disabled Children’ under Department of Social Welfare. In 1998 August he responds GOD’s calling by quitting his well-paid job and good lives at Singapore and return back to Myanmar, his mother country, to serve children with disabilities. He established Eden Centre in April 2000 at Yangon, Myanmar with Ms. Lilian Gyi, a co-founder, after seeking GOD’s guidance in prayer for nearly two years at Yangon with his family.

LILIAN GYI, Special Education Teacher, is the only qualified special education teacher in the country before the year 2010. She graduated from Humboldt University, Berlin, Germany majoring in special education in 1970. She established the first special school, ‘School for Disabled Children (SDC)’, in Myanmar under Department of Social Welfare in October 1971. She works as a principal in that school for 30 years until she retired in the year 2000. She declines to get promotion because of her passionate to serve children with disabilities with her profession. She dedicated her whole life and tirelessly work for the development of disability sector in the country. She is a mother of special education in Myanmar. She is a co-founder of Eden Centre for Disabled Children (ECDC) together with Tha Uke in April 2000.
